Got The Car Running Now Some Pre-Pump Removal Questions!! 200 1988

After unscrewing up my minor tune up I would like to tackle the removal of the pre-pump. I have been told there is a way to disconnect the gas lines from below the car but I do not see where. I got the car up on ramps and do not see anything under the rear axle. On my 1988 I see what I think is the gas line coming down and going right to the main pump. Sould I just try to undo the gas line at the sender unit? I am having problems understanding why I cannot just depressurize the system and unhook all the hoses going into the sender unti at the top and then open up the locking ring. What am I not seeing here?
