Weak start 200

My 1987 240 is struggling getting started. When I turn the key there is a sound like "Wheeeeeeeeeeeee" for 1-3 seconds until there is a crank and then the car starts fine. I would just get a new battery but the voltmeter registers fine before I turn the key. It sounds like a short to me, although it would proabably be easier to get a new battery than find a short.
For some additional info that may or may not be helpful: A few months ago I discovered that one of the terminals was completly eroded on one side. I don't know what caused this, I just replaced the terminal. I don't know if this is related to the weak start or not cause now there are two perfectly good terminals and two clean posts. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks.
