a/c belt eliminated ? 200

I have a 84 gl and wish too eliminate the 2 drive belts to the a/c compressor.
Problem is that you need to run the power steering pump from the a/c compressor.
It appears that if I removed the pulley off the power steering pump and reversed it around I would gain alignment to the drive pulley from crank. Any suggestions from the 240 brickheads? My a/c hasn't work in years and I thought by eliminating the belts to the compressor I may gain some gas mileage efficency. Why does my rack leak oil in cold weather but not in hot weather? Michael
