Yeah, especially if you melt a hole in one or more pistons.
(ask me how I know!)
Whipping around loop 410 one day at 70 mph in about 1970 suddenly old blue
filled with smoke so dense it was putting drops on the inside of the windshield
even with the windows open. Turned out it was those Rambler pistons I got
that were already a couple ounces lighter than Volvo pistons and were also
about 0.070" too tall so I milled them off where the head was flat above
them. When I pulled the head all 4 were cracked on both sides and one had
about a 1/4" hole melted in it. (But they only cost $4.70 EACH!!)

I think normal blowby on a worn engine will give a little smoke out the
breather, though.
