Update on 'Blue smoke after shifting . . .' 200 1989

This post is a followup to this one.

A few days ago, I tried again to see if I could produce the blue smoke out of the back of my car. This time I was entering the freeway, and so I put the gear selector into second so I could take the car up to near 5 or 6K rpms (remember, my kickdown cable is disconnected).

Right at 4,500 rpms, the car experienced a power loss and the blue smoke began bellowing out. I shifted almost immediately into third, at which point the smoke stopped and full power was regained.

Going back and reading the previous responses and having this new experience, I think that I am sharing the same problem had by landlockedsurfer. My guess is that Jiffy Lube overfilled my oil, and so the excess is somehow leaking into the cylinders and burning, in such prodigious amounts that the car loses power (since there's a bunch of oil burning futilely instead of gasoline).

I'll mention this possibility to my dad (who knows a little more about cars than me) and I'll see if I can get this problem remedied. I know I checked the oil dipstick and it was full, to the top line, but it didn't seemed to be "overfilled." Will the dipstick reveal such a condition, or does one have to check the level at a point closer to the oil?

What's the easiest way to remove excess oil? I think that simply doing the whole "high rev plus burning oil smoke" is the simplest, since it involves no mechanical work, but I would guess that it's not great for the engine. However, draining some but not all oil out of the bottom sounds messy. What should I do? Will it burn off over time, without the giant cloud? I don't seem to be eliminating it quickly; I haven't noticed little puffs of blue smoke while driving, just a huge one at 4.5K, and I have no leaks of which I am aware.
