Overdrive Solenoid 200 1989

I have an 89 240 DL (automatic) with a malfunctioning overdrive; it seems to be stuck off, and pressing the button on the shifter does not turn it back on. I have detirmined that it is not the wiring, and before I replace the relay for $40, I'ld like to look at the solenoid, as one person claimed that on high mileage cars (mine is at 213K) the solenoid will attract dirt and stop working. The problem is that I know very little about cars, and can't find the solenoid. Basically that's my question... where is the solenoid located on my car, and what does it look like? Thanks for any information.
