Car won't crank; I pulled connector from AMM and it cranks..but putters. Need info 200 1989

According to Bentley Manual...I checked resistance on my AMM w/ voltmeter...between the #2 and #3 terminals. This is for an '89 240 with the LH 2.4 fuel system. The resistance was 3.1 ohms..and this is within the suggested range of 2 something to 4 something. I'm starting to wonder if this AMM is the problem. The hard cold fact is that car won't crank w/ AMM plugged up..but will run fine (until accelerated) w/o the thing plugged in. I haven't checked to see whether the "burnoff cleaning" feature for the platinum wire is working...but Bentley says that if this check doesn't work, then the ECU could be problem. I recently replaced the ECU w/ one from someone on ebay...[notorius 561 ECU is failure prone]..according to sticker on ECU it was remanufactured. Just wondering if I put in replacement AMM..will bad "burnoff cleaning" feature cause another AMM failure???

p.s. Do you think my root cause problem is AMM or ECU??
