850 engine in 940SE

It's been done at least in Sweden but there are a few things to check.

Oil pan - the 850 pan will interfere. A (custom) shortened 960 pan seems to be the solution, regarding to other sites.

Electronics will be usable. Just check for speed signal compatibility. Transmission? Well, the 960 trans should work if you want an automatic. Can't tell whether the communication protocol (engine-trans ECU) is identic between FWD/RWD ECUs, though. Manual is easier. Just use an M90, found in european manual 960's...sorry, but that's the only "bolt-on-way" to go. It sure i-s worth some money because the M90 is a far improved gearbox, compared to the M46/47.

There will also be a lot of small modifications to take care of but I guess that isn't a big deal in a project of this dignity.

Martin
