Got some codes, need some answers 200

Well now the '90 240 has it check engine light on.First code I got was 123,coolant temp sensor. It will be replaced.Do you think a bad temp sensor would cause the inside temp gauge to rise?Or is it just my luck that the fan clucth also needs replacing. The second code is 131 ,engine rpm signal missing. What should I be looking for to repair this?It would have been nice if the Bentley book would have said code *** see section ***.Do you agree?Anyway what do I need to check concernig the missing rpm signal? Thanks,
Nelson
