AC v-belt Problem 200 1987

I am replacing all my v-belts and I have a problem with the AC belt. The belt that was on the car was 13 x 980 and the new belt I bought is 13 x 975. I got the belt over the pullys with some effort, but I cannot get the AC compressor to line up correctly. I loosened the bottom mounts to replace the belt and now with the mounts loose the belt is tight and the compressor's front (pully) end turns inward when I try to tighten it. Is there another adjustment for the rear mount of the compressor that I am missing? The belt tensioner is useless right now. IS it possible that the last person to put on belts adjusted the mounts for a longer belt and now the shorter belt will not fit the setup??? Please give me some ideas!!

TIA
