Crushing defeat. 444-544 1961

To try to solve/diagnose my overheating/oil in radiator issue, I got my car running and proceeded to flush and refill the cooling system, and I even replaced the thermostat. The car ran fine in the driveway, and with the new thermostat it ran a bit hot, but not overheating. So I took it out for a test drive, made it a couple blocks heard a bad noise and my temp started shooting up and I was trailing water. Pull over and look to find a broken fan belt, a broken water pump pulley, a bent blade on the now free to fly fan which had already punctured the radiator in at least one spot. What a mess. Now the car is stuck down the street and I am hoping I can pull it home with my truck when I find someone to help me out. Oh well, it sure took a lot of aging items out of the equation. Now I just have to find and pay for replacements and repairs.

Total defeat has been accomplished. The good news is that someone is giving me a free engine hoist today.
