pulling engine and tranny at same time.... 200 1987

Heya,

Aaaaah the joys of pulling an engine, I have pulled all sorts of engines from 4's to straight 6's to many a V8, even a V12!!!! hahahahaha

Ok first make sure you keep track of everything you remove or disconnect, it is easy to think you will remember this and that but a few hours or days later it definately won't be so clear! Write everything down and draw pictures even, especially on efi cars.

Next make sure everything is disconnected or removed that will stop the engine/trans from coming out easily, it is so easy to be stopped by one little wire or linkage, and there is nothing worse than this mid pull! In a perfect world you just want it to come straight out.

Next tip, depending on the car taking the bonnet off makes things a lot easier. It is a bit more work but well worth it.

Next make sure you have the engine balanced well on the crane so that when it is disconnected it will tilt back at about 45deg so that the tranny will slide out easily.

Always use chains to lift the engine/trans with and make sure the way you attach it wont bend the bolt/stud or distort the motor in some way.

Finally (although I'm sure to have forgotten something) always take your time. Think about things each step of the way. Run through each step a couple of times in your head before you make it so that you don't make more work for yourself. And with the final removal of the engine be especially careful as it is easy to do a lot of damage with a couple hundred kilo's of engine swinging around on an engine crane.

Hope that is of some help,

Daz
