Slow going into O/D and wagon cargo cover kwestion 700

1986 740T wagon.

After having replaced my distributor recently, I've noticed that when I'm driving at speeds over 40 mph it seems to take forever for the overdrive to kick in. I can force it into overdrive by pressing the accelerator after I've topped out at whatever speed I want to maintain, but it seems like it stays in 3rd gear a lot longer than it used to. However, sometimes it seems to go into overdrive on its own. Any ideas?

Also, I saw what looked like a 90 wagon very similar to mine (same color, body accessories). Peeked at the back trunk area and it had a cargo cover that would conceal whatever is in the trunk from prying eyes like mine. Are those cargo covers aftermarket equipment?
