65S with a J OD 1800

Swapped out my D OD and transmission for a later model trans and J type OD. The J type body is a little longer than the D type and we inserted the shorter output flange on the J body to re-use the existing drive shaft. The tansmission has developed a leak between the OD and the spacer from the transmission; and under certain driving conditions (like starting out in first gear) the drive line seems to sing. The U joints are OK. Rear end has less than 5000 miles on it. I think that the problems may be caused or made
worse by the drive shaft being to long and I am considering shorting it. Any advice from people with experience with this swap would be appreciated. Is
there anything else that I should look at?

Thanks
Rick
