Right rear window replacement, manual; right rear wagon panel window replacement 200 1989

I am trying to replace the right rear ( manual) window, I have removed all the old shattered glass and have removed the metal piece at the bottom by disengaging the clips etc. I have the new glass ready to go in, but have not been able to get it into the door. I've tried all angles and have tried from the inside and from the outside. What is the secret to getting it to go in?
Also, I have removed the shattered glass from the rear wagon panel, have cleaned up the rubber gasket/seal and have been told to use clothesline and wd40 to pull the new glass panel into place from the inside. Will this work? Is there a need for further window sealant ? Any other tips?
