SMOKE and FOUL SMELL FROM NEW CAT 900 1994

944T, 160Kmis. B230FT.

Read thru the FAQ, but cannot match symptoms exactly.

Just replaced entire exhaust system, turbo, and catalytic converter. Also intake bellows because old one dried out from exhaust heat and was cracked. All parts came from FCP.

Car seemed to run great on short test run.

Today on two 40 minute commutes, smelled extremely foul exhaust odor and noticed smoke from exhaust - black smoke; not the blue smoke that came from exhaust before I replaced the turbo (bad oil seals). Puffs out noticeably when accelerating. Power seems OK. Car hesitates just slightly when throttle is first opened from idle, but otherwise acceleration seems OK.

Tonight after cooling off for a couple hours car was initially hard to start.

Temperature gage starts out reading cold but warms to middle of range then never moves again. Am wondering about the ECT.

Have "CHECK ENGINE" light, persisting from before turbo failed. No idea about which codes are called out.

Need car for 500M trip on Thursday ...

Frustrated,
Fairfax, VA
