Grooves in brake rotors 200 1993

OK, wanted to upgrade the brakes on 93 245...got Brembo cross-drilled (and vented) rotors, Metalmaster front pads...Used to hear a groaning sound while the pads were breaking in.
Now for the problem...after about a year, the front rotors each have a pair of parrellel 2-3mm deep grooves (5-6mm wide). The pads still have 50% thickness (as seen from the back of the caliper).
My auto-techie friends say "let the pads and rotors go till they burn up"...
I have a set of normal rotors and Canadian pads....should I switch now or wait till everything wears through?
gracias,
el Raidman
