When you installed the driveshaft, was there a little bit of play in it? THat is, could you slide the front part away from the transmission flange? I don't know how much clearance is necessary there, but if its too tight, you might be putting stress on pinion bearing in the rear when under load. I would think that when the rear of hte car squats under accelleration, the driveshaft shortens... if it can't shorten a bit, you're doing some damage. You definetely don't want to put any sort of unwanted stresses on that nice new pinion setup.

That's not to say go right out and get the driveshaft shortened... it is to say you need to check the free play where splined slide happens...

As for the leak...my bet is that it ain't related unless all the fluid leaked out. If the overdrive still works, its got some oil. I'd start by tightening the bolts. Is it leaking on the transmission side, or the OD side? Be super careful not to strip the bolts in the aluminum!
