self cleaning the engine 200

I haven't had one steam cleaned, but I have never heard of any drawbacks to that. It is certainly easier and probably more environmentally friendly and thorough than the method I use, but mine is inexpensive and convenient.

I just go to a self service car wash, tie a plastic bag over my distributer and have at the engine bay with their pressure wand. Sometimes I spray enginge cleaner on it first if it's really bad. The only problem I have had with this is that once i had a no-start because i hadn't learned to cover the distributer and had to spray wire-dryer in the distributer to get it going.
I know some people cover the alternator too, but I have never bothered.

I have read that even opening the hood of your car in a carwash in California can get you a citation.
