I have been told that adjusting to a fast idle and spraying modest amounts of water into the carbs over a twenty minute period with a spray bottle will also remove a lot of carbon -- as will water injection. Never tried it myself, as whatever engine I had that could have used the treatment ended up needing a rebuild as well.
