Cruise control disengages (usually when going down a hill)?? 200 1989

Hi eveyone -

I've never had a brick with cruise before now, and seldom have the chance to use it because of Dallas traffic, but a couple of nights ago while driving my new '89 244 GL home I tried to use it, and twice it disengaged itself. It might be my imagination, but it seemed like both times it happened when I was coasting down a hill. Is there maybe some vacuum related thingy that might cause this, or another dreaded electrical gremlin?

I appreciate any advice!
