Anyone had exhaust manifold gaskets replaced? 700 1989

The car has 216k on it. It sounds like a diesel because from what i have been told, the gaskets are pretty much gone. It keeps frying the plug wires on the number 2 cylinder (2.3L) and you can feel the leak when you put your hand over it. I made a appointment to have them replaced. I guess im just wondering what to expect. Will it quiet the thing down at all? Right now the exhaust system is fine but the thing sounds like it has a huge hole in it (except in the front obviousley) It also has a loud ticking which im not sure if it part of that leak or if it is this famous piston slap that everybody talks about. Just wondering what to expect. Thanks!
