1982 240 Wagon w/few problems - should I buy for $600??? 200 1982

I have the opportunity to purchase an 82 240 wagon with 180k miles. New transmission, new clutch, good tires and it runs. Problems: needs new gear for speedometer, mechanic says there is an a/c hose problem (maybe you guys know what he is talking about) and the OD is whining. Is it worth the investment? The mechanic says he can't find a gear for the speedometer. I don't know. I'm looking at it for a spare since the last time my Saab was in the shop I was without a car for over 2 weeks. I would also want to be able to drive the car on long trips (anywhere from 3 hours to 12 hour trips). Whatcha think?
