First step, get rid of the Chiltons book, it is useless however many Bricksters have found it usefull if their cat has incontenance, the pages seem to have just the required absorbancy quality. Others have found the pages to be ideal as a bird cage liner. Haynes or Bentleys is much better and there is much diagnostic and theory info presented in the FAQ section.
Second step, say your year, model and turbo or NA. What are your symptoms and fault codes.
None of the devices you mentioned are connected to a relay, they are however connected to the ECU. O2 sensor signal does not directly impact signal from the AMM nor the output to the IAC (idle air control motor?) It's signal is used by the ECU to fine tune the mixture and if it goes bad performance or ability to start the engine is not usually affected. It will have it's own fault code and will not cause fault codes for other devices. I do not believe that a bad O2 connector would ever damage the ECU.
What was the test you were attempting, was it the O2 sensor output? Where is the pink wire? O2 output is normally checked at a round connector high on the firewall passenger side. Some models however do have a test connector and yes the wire may be pink, it is test connector and therefore nothing is connected to it except while testing. It's Voltage should fluctuate up and down between 0v and 12V if the mixture as controlled by the ECU is correct. It is therefore testing more than just the O2 sensor
