Front Strut Advice 700 1992

I recently replaced the shocks & strut inserts on my 745 with Bilstein HD's. Also replaced ball joints and radius rod bushings...myself, thanks to this board and the 700/900 FAQ.

Although the ride has improved dramatically, I still have "some" front end vibration, particularly on freeway expansion joints. Granted, I haven't had the car aligned yet, and the balance of the front wheels is questionable. Also, I realize these shocks are stiffer than most, and am willing to live with it if all else is to spec.

With the hood open, I can bounce the car and see movement in the upper strut bushings...vertical, not lateral movement. The upper bushing washer (with rubber ribbed base) moves (or "flexes") up and down on the strut mount. I don't see a huge amount of play, but it definitely isn't a fully compressed/no movement fit when bouncing the car. I am a pretty good mechanic. Everything was painstakingly assembled and tourqued to spec with loctite and new locking nuts. I just don't have enough strut experience to know for sure if this is normal movement or not. To me it could go either way...normal or wrong.

My question is: Is this a normal condition? If not, what may be the prognosis?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Tom
