Do you want to restore it or improve it? Restoration may not be the practical way to go. Eg. M45 isn't as good on gas as an M46.

You're thinking of getting one thing at a time and that's where the costs mount. See if you can find a cheap parts car with all the needed components working.

There's a New Zealand Volvo site which may be of some help locating local 240 parts cars (http://volvoadventures.com/index.html). I haven't really checked out their board though.
