No Start /Backfires- 1800E - 1800 1970

1970 1800E.

No start - Does not even seem to fire. Backfires while cranking.

What I've done. New distributor, new cap/rotor/plugs. Pertronix.

What I've verified.
Engine a #1 TDC by lining up mark on crankshaft pulley and cover.
Spark plug wires from cap going to 1-3-4-2 counterclockwise, to front
of engine, 1-2-3-4.
Cheked for Spark from #1 plug wire by grounding a spare spark plug to
block and rotating distributor.
New coil replaced with known working old coil
Brown wires to positive of coil.
Bypassed tach wires and connected pertronix directly to coil per
instrucitons.
Jumpered red wire to positive to check for low voltage problem.
Verified coil wire to cap and trigger contact plugged in.
Fuses are good.

Fuel pump does come on when first turning key on.
Btw, having to jump from another Volvo, because battery is drained,
but I am revving other engine to get enough current to continuosly
crank engine, but does not seem to fire and backfires.

What should I do? Getting pretty frustrated.

Thanks, Tom.
