Weld or replace header pipe? (Pic of crack) 200 1989

That looks kinda typical of the kind of overheating you get when your ignition
is not advanced far enough. If it were mine I would check the ignition
timing and err on the side of being too advanced.
I don't see any reason you couldn't weld it. Should probably check what
is under that plug in the picture. Looks like it has been leaking (need
a new gasket?) and maybe whatever is inside might also be obstructing the
flow also.

I would not go $70 - 100 for a new pipe until I at least tried getting it
welded.

Is the rest of your exhaust system clear, not plugged up? Cat??
