Power side mirror problem (I think it's haunted)

Hi. I bought my 93 240 about two years ago with lots of miles on it. I noticed that it came with heated mirrors, but I don't think they've ever worked. That was pretty much the extent to which I thought about my mirrors. I don't have an owner's manual, so I wasn't even aware the mirrors were motorized until I heard the motor in my driver's side mirror working by itself today. It appears that whenever I make a left turn, the mirror motor activates itself and turns the mirror in towards the car. After dozens of donuts and figure-eights in my parking lot, I've confirmed it's just on left turns and the driver's side. This is the first indication I've had that the mirrors were more than manual, and I have no idea where the remote controls in the car are or how I can possibly end the possessed mirror mania. Is there anyone out there who can give me a clue as to what's going on or what I can tell my mechanic to have it fixed?
