High beam wiring problem 200 1988


There is no 86b on the step relay. I guess you mean 56b which should have a Gray wire running back into the cabin to the Bulb Failure Sensor. From the BFS, 2 Blue wires come out, one to each Low Beam.

The High Beams are the 2 Red wires coming from terminal 56a on the step relay. They must be OK if the stalk flasher switch works.

But the voltage source for flashing the Highs (terminal 15) is not the same one used for normal lighting. That comes in on terminal 56, and is common to both High and Low beams. So if normal Highs don't work I'd suspect the step relay itself, or the "rewiring" you mentioned.
