850 Wheels on 960? 900

I've got a line on some alloy wheels off a 96 850 sedan. they are 15" wheels but my '97 960 wagon has 16" wheels. I know the 700 series used the ~25 mm offset wheels while the 960 has the 40 mm offset. can anyone confirm the 850 wheels will work. my goal is to use the 15" wheels for snow tires.

Also, I have some 15" steel wheels off a '91 740 turbo sedan. any reason the steel wheels would be different, that is, steel wheels from a 700 series car would fit on a 960.

also, I will try the 850 wheels on my 960, what makes the wheels not work, rubbing of the brake caliper or what.
