Oblong holes, Is it OK to weld material to the generator? 444-544

I am in the process of fixing the fan belt/waterpump/radiator issue on my 61 wagon. I have already fixed the oblong holes on the alternator bracket with some washers and filling in with some welding, it looks great. Now I have to contend with oblong holes on my generator (or is it a dynamo?) mounting ears. One side of the generator is composed of a non-ferrous (not weldable with my gear) and the other side looks as if it is made of iron or steel. The side which is ferrous is the worse side. I was wondering if it would damage the alternator to weld the ear like I did with the bracket? I would put the grounding clamp right next to the weld, but is there a good chance of frying something?? If anybody has a 6 volt generator that has a good housing I would appreciate it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
