Transmission AW72 700 1989

Mornin

My Dads 1989 760 GLE's tranny has been acting up. Its actually been going on for a year or two.

When switching gears (automatic) there is a small lag, and then it surges. We've learned to avoid it by letting off the gas when we get over ~2500rpm. It switch by itself from there. Same from 2nd to 3rd but not as bad.

I read around that this car has a AW72. If it gets worse, is it the simple tranny fluid flush?

Or is it something else?

I looked around FAQs and could not find anything on the AW72.

Thanks,
AL
