Major Engine Problem with 1990 780 Turbo 700

My Mother-in-Law's 1990 780 Turbo is having major problems. The engine has lost most of its power but still runs. The mechanic she took it to told her that it's only running on two cylinders. He told her it wasn't worth fixing, and she didn't ask any more questions...

I know that's not a lot of info to go on, but does this sound like something worth fixing? Any idea on ballpark price? Can anyone recommend a good and reasonable Volvo mechanic near Bear, DE?

She is calling the original mechanic today to ask him exactly what is wrong with the car, and what is his estimate to fix it. If she gets any relevant info, I'll post it here.

If it isn't worth fixing, what is the car worth in this condition? What is the best way to dispense with it? Salvage? Would anyone on this board be interested?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

Ron
