The designer of the brake switch should be flogged.... 200

...if he's still alive!
Can someone please help me! I work on my elderly mothers 1992 Volvo 240. Her brake lights are not working. The fuse looks good. The warning lamp on the dash is operational, but it does not light up when the brakes are pressed leading me to believe the brake switch is faulty. How on earth, can I get access to it???? I have removed the under dash panel, bent some grey metal thingamabob, but I cant even get to the nut between the pedal and switch. By the way, what is the size of the nut that I need to undo?
Any help is always appreciated.
