Brake Master Cylinder

I've been having my "brake failure" light flash on whenever I needed to slow my 84 244GL down when it was going over 35. I had the rotars and pads all replaced back in June and assumed that it was something with how they fixed them. Well apparently that's not the case and it is the master cylinder. I'm at the end of my rope of having to fix things on my car (only has 145k on it) especially after paying $350 to fix it in June and they want another $350 to fix this "problem". Are they on the up and up or is this some made up problem?

Thanks.
