Deposits on exhaust manifold flange 900 1991

Below are a couple of photos of the exhaust manifold flange to twin pipe joint on my 940. As you can see there are a lot of white deposits around the flange. Does this mean the gasket has blown? My folks 740 (same engine) does not have these deposits around the flange. If it is the gasket, how hard is it to replace it? I know I'll need to soak the bolts for a few days in penetrating lubricant. Any suggestions appreciated.

Brad
