1990 740 doesn't turn over when hot outside 700

I've got a 1990 740 (8 valve) automatic w/ 190k miles on it. When it's hot outside my car tends to not start. I'll turn the key to the start position and nothing. Nothing from the starter. Nada. Windows, lights, radio, and other electrical thigns work just fine.

I'll come back a little while later when the environment has cooled down some and she'll start up. For a while I thought may be there some sort of mechanical jamming/lockup in the ignition key switch that could do this, but then the other day I simply just jumped the car and it started right up!

Surely it's not the battery? I just replaced it last year.

Any insights?
