Last night I changed the front wheel bearings in my '86 245. Thinking that a good old American bearing was the way to go, I bought a set of Timken bearings, both inner and outer. Since I finished late, there was no way to test drive the car so I just drove it to work this morning, a distance of 55 miles. The darn thing pulls to the left so hard it is almost impossible to keep it in the center of the road. I checked the checked the bearing box and found out that the Timken bearings were made in France! One of my French counterparts told me that they usually put an American bearing on the left front and a French bearing on the right front. This apparently keeps the car in alignment.
