Best way to close off 'hot side' in airbox? 200

While changing my air filter on an 80 degree day, I noticed the flapper in my airbox is mostly toward the cold intake. So, I plan to just shut it off the hot side, as here in TN, I do not need the heated air anyway. How have others done this? Can I just yank out the thermostat and silicone the flap down on the hot port? Or are there better ways of doing it? Thanks.
