electrical demons in tachometer 200 1986

Hello all,

I've been experiencing an elecrical demon for a few months now, and I'm getting tired of it. My tachometer drops near zero every time I turn on my parking lights or headlights. The moment the lights are switched back off, the tach gives an accurate reading of the engine speed. The problem was very inconsistent when it bagan about 6 months ago, but now it absolutely always does this. The needle hovers around what would be idle regardless of engine speed. I also notice when I look at the needle carefully it fluctuates with the interior electrical load on the car. For example, it will waver when I hold down the power window button and release it.

Any ideas? I've made no attempt to fix this yet. I suppose I should take out the gauges and clean all the contacts. Any better suggestions?

Thanks!!
