need advice on new shocks for 122 120-130

Howdy. I need 4 new shocks for my '62 122 sedan and was wondering if anyone could make recommendations for a certain kind/brand of shock. I was hoping to not spend a whole lot but are the Bilsteins (at $300) really worth that? I can get 4 Monroe oil shocks on ebay for $80. Any suggestions for something in between these two price extremes? Are the Monroes any good? Which is better, oil or gas?
I want a medium duty shock- not too soft and not too rigid. thanks, Mike
