1983 244T engine rebuild and transmission question

Okay; I have a 1983 244 Turbo with a manual transmission. I have posted previously that my head gasket developed a coolant leak directly above the bolt near the rear of the engine connecting the metal heater pipe from the water pump to the heater core pipes at the firewall. It took forever to find that leak. I removed my head and sent it in for a valve job and resurfacing (might as well, the head was off for the new head gasket anyway). I then asked for opinions and decided that it is better after 296k miles to get my engine rebuilt. The machine shop that my dealer uses (I spoke with the service technician that I have known for years gave me the information, will rebuild the engine (new bearings, polish crank, pistons, rings, etc.) for $1,650 and the head work is $250. I purchased a $150 engine puller w/leveler and an engine stand $49.

I have two questions. 1. I removed the manual transmission after pulling the engine/transmission to work on the clutch out of the car. But, how does one put the transmission back on the engine out of the car? Put the engine on the engine stand? and lift the transmission with the engine puller and just guide it in? I prefer to do this out of the car. If I'm doing this by myself, what is the best way to mount the transmission to the engine with the engine out of the car?

Second question.

2. The machine shop measured the crank and said that the measurements tell them that I have a 1982 non-Turbo crank instead of the 1983 Turbo crank. He said that the 82 non-turbo crank is a better crank. However, I purchased this car new in 1983 and no engine work, except a valve job was done to it. No way that crank didn't come new with car when I bought it. Any thoughts on this.

Thanks,

Lawren
