Timing Belt Question 200 1989

I have a Volvo motor in my boat- same thing as in my 89 240. Its been great over the years but is finally starting to eat parts.

The timing belt has gone up. It is mising about 8-10 teeth in a row. Any ideas as to why this would happen would be appreciated. Any hints as to replacing the belt would be appreciated as well. I have it apart and the marks are line up, but am cocerned that there may be more to all this than meets the eye.

Before you tell me that I am an idiot for not having the belt replaced, it was done four years ago by a professional mechanic who has since left the area, leaving me to my own devices.

Thanks for any/all help.

Zimm
