Test drove a 940 light pressure turbo, a couple of questions 900

Fellow Brickboarders,

Test drove a 940 with the B230FK light pressure turbo. I have read previously on the brickboard that the AW71 is the transmission in this vehicle and that it does not come with a torque converter. Having drove this car today (admittedly only 15 minutes) it seemed tremendously eager to drop down a gear at anywhere near 50-60mph even with very little pressure on the gas pedal. So my question would be is this a 3 speed or 4 speed auto, as it does not display the 3 numeral on the gear selector. And secondly, surely the "hunting" between top gear and second/third would be tiresome on a trip and also detrimental to fuel consumtion. Is this a common feeling that other 940 users experience with this transmission??

Apart from that the car was in impeccable condition for a 96 model (I live in Australia and that was the last year they came out here). Apart from a nasty vibration through the steering column when braking, which I believe will be some warped discs. Everything seemed fine for a car that has travelled 125,000 miles, it comes with a full service history. So I feel confident in purchasing this vehicle, however some feedback on this transmission would be appreciated before I put my hard earned money down.

Cheers
