Transmission OD Relay Quick Fix?! 200 1992

After occassionally dis-engaging (arrow light coming ON) after starting, the overdrive finally refused to engage and left me with just 3 gears. After doing a little searching on the board, I learned to check the wires near the shift lever and the relay behind the dash. The wires/switch looked fine and the relay had no noticable solder cracks. To test whether it was the relay or the solenoid, I jammed a piece of cardboard in the relay to permanently activate it. Took the car out for a test drive and I have all 4 gears again. If I don't really need this function out here on the prairie, is this a decent quick fix? Any problems I'm not realizing? Thanks.
