Are there 700s to avoid when buying? 700

For $4k-$7k, buy a 940. If you find a 740, buy one built after 1988 so the wiring harness does not degrade. Turbos built after around 1990 have the later Bosch LH2.4 system with self-diagnostics; earlier turbos do not. See the 700/900 FAQ for details on how to evaluate a car and what to plan for preventive maintenance. Plan on around $750 in expenditures to bring the car up to reliable operation (new cooling system, brake pads, fluids, etc.)
