Fuel Injector O-rings and Washers Musings 1800 1970

Got all new seals for my injectors. Noted some interesting things.
2 of the holder o-rings were cracked. All were very brittle and flattened. They didn't even look like o-rings, but more like washers. All the holders were very grimy on the inside. Also, there were no fiber washers. So, after all new o-rings, started up, and didn't run as rough or die during warmup. Could it be possible that I had some air leaking past the holder o-rings, causing the roughness?

What's the purpose of fiber washers? Do they aid in sealing? FYI, there a 2 fiber washers. One goes between the injector holder and the head. The other goes between the metal washer and the holder. (My metal washer was still there)
