IAC Valve: Can Simple-Green be used to clean the valve-end ? 700

Hi,

Just took off the IAC Valve on my 1985 740 Non-Turbo. Though it dosn't seem very dirty, you dont hear the valve swinging open when you rotate the IAC as easily as the forum suggests you should. I mean you have to jerk it quite a bit before you hear the sound.

I thought I had a new can of carb-cleaner around prior to removing the IAC, but I cant find it now - so was wondering if Simple-Green would also work. Any reason it shouldn't ? Does carb-cleaner dry-out better ? If so - which are the good carb-cleaners currently available ?

As I understand it, you spray the cleaner into the valve tubes and brush-away until it is clean and the valve swings easily - all the while making sure that the terminal end of the IAC is facing up. Is this correct ?

By the way - I was hoping to be able to open up the valve-body end of the IAC by prying-open the 8 claws - so I could clean it thoroughly, but that didn't work. There's a punch-mark on the IAC body so not sure if that's what is preventing the assembly from coming out. Anyone had success opening one ?

Thanks !

Noel
