M41 and overdrive 1800

At first I was using 80w-90. then on the recomendation of a friend as well as the manuel i have i switched over to 5w-30. However I will swith back. In fact I think this problem came up right after I switched to 5w-30. I thought that the problem with the grinding may have been related to the clutch cable, so I replaced it, however the problem has not yet gone away. When I put the clutch cable onto bell houseing should it pull at all on the fork? I have it adjusted right now so that it does not pull on the fork at all.
